Scambusters, Preventing Internet Scams & Phishing Attempts

This blog is dedicated to help preventing internet fraud and internet scams. Scambusters was a radio show I started in Albany Oregon, but due to defaulted payment by the radio station we took the show offline. Regardless of this issue we still wish to help prevent internet fraud and save people from internet loss. I have been interviewed and featured in various publications such as the Wall Street Journal, New York Times & Daily News, The London Times & AARP Newsletters. Please watch this blog for latest tips and tricks and scams to avoid.

Online Job Scam Warning - Green Tree LTD - Warehousing

This is a common scam from Moster.com or Careerbuilder or Hotjobs etc.. They seem very legit and even create a website that looks real. They find us by scanning resumes out on these job sites. I personally have a resume out there looking for a new job, so I was easy to contact.

The scam is simple, they take you through a ton of paperwork to make things seem legit and then you start receiving payments, the first few may be real, smaller amounts to get you started, a couple hundred here and there. You deposit the money and wire the balance less your commission to the scammer. Next you get a bunch of high ticket checks, many hundreds or thousands of dollars, you deposit the funds and then wire the amounts less your commission, however now in about 7-10 days the checks or money orders all bounce, they are 100% fake you are owe your bank back thousands of dollars!

Can you say bankruptcy?

jThey use different web sites, changing them very often:

http://gretewh.org.uk
http://gretewh.me.uk
http://gretewh.me.uk
http://gretewh.co.uk
http://grnrwg.org.uk

I've already spoken with www.monster.com and it looks like they will have to increase security of the data.

I just received one of these scammer emails. They used the website http://gtwh.org.uk. If you try to find the website it does not exist. I googled the real Greentree and there is a fraud alert on their website about this scam. fascinating. All the work that goes into such a scam. If they can just get a FEW people to buy in each month they will more than make up for the cost of runing the scam.

I have received over 2500 emails from them since this began a few months ago, at least 25 a day.
